NANGJUNGJICHU (囊中之錐), THE AWL IN THE BAG

NANGJUNGJICHU (囊中之錐)

THE AWL IN THE BAG

COMPLETE ENGLISH NARRATION

Scene 1

Long ago, during China's Warring States Period, the kingdom of Zhao faced a grave crisis.

Powerful enemies threatened its borders, and war seemed inevitable.

The fate of the kingdom hung in the balance.

Scene 2

To save Zhao, the noble Lord Pingyuan decided to travel to the Kingdom of Chu and seek military assistance.

Success or failure could determine the future of his nation.

Scene 3

Lord Pingyuan needed twenty capable men to accompany him on this critical mission.

After careful consideration, he selected nineteen.

But one position remained empty.

Scene 4

Many talented scholars and retainers lived within his residence.

Yet none seemed suitable for the final place.

Lord Pingyuan hesitated.

Scene 5

At that moment, an obscure retainer named Mao Sui stepped forward.

With confidence, he bowed respectfully.

"My lord, allow me to join your delegation."

Scene 6

Lord Pingyuan looked at him with surprise.

"Mao Sui?"

The name was unfamiliar.

He barely remembered the man.

Scene 7

Lord Pingyuan frowned.

"How long have you served in my household?"

Mao Sui answered calmly.

"Nearly three years, my lord."

Scene 8

Lord Pingyuan shook his head.

"A truly talented person is like an awl hidden inside a bag."

"Even if concealed, its sharp point will eventually pierce through."

Scene 9

He continued.

"You have lived here for three years."

"Yet no one has ever spoken of your abilities."

"How can I trust you with such an important mission?"

Scene 10

The hall fell silent.

Everyone expected Mao Sui to retreat in embarrassment.

Instead, he smiled.

Scene 11

Mao Sui bowed once more.

"My lord, that is because I have never been placed inside the bag."

Scene 12

The room grew quiet.

Curious faces turned toward him.

Scene 13

Mao Sui continued confidently.

"If you place me inside the bag today, not only will the point emerge..."

Scene 14

"...the entire awl, including its handle, will reveal itself."

His words echoed through the chamber.

Scene 15

The retainers exchanged surprised glances.

Such courage was rare.

Such confidence even rarer.

Scene 16

Lord Pingyuan studied Mao Sui carefully.

For the first time, he sensed something extraordinary.

Scene 17

After a moment of thought, he nodded.

"Very well."

"You shall accompany us."

Scene 18

The delegation traveled many days before arriving in Chu.

The mission began.

Scene 19

Negotiations with the King of Chu proved difficult.

The discussions dragged on endlessly.

No agreement was reached.

Scene 20

The delegates grew anxious.

Failure seemed increasingly likely.

Scene 21

Then Mao Sui stepped forward.

He requested permission to address the king directly.

Scene 22

With remarkable wisdom and courage, he spoke.

His arguments were clear.

His logic was powerful.

His words impossible to ignore.

Scene 23

The King of Chu listened attentively.

Gradually, his attitude changed.

Scene 24

At last, the king agreed to support Zhao.

The alliance was secured.

The mission succeeded.

Scene 25

Lord Pingyuan was astonished.

Mao Sui had accomplished what many renowned scholars could not.

Scene 26

From that day forward, Mao Sui's name became known throughout the land.

His talent could no longer remain hidden.

Scene 27

Thus was born the expression:

"Nangjungjichu."

"The Awl in the Bag."

Ending

True ability does not remain hidden forever.

Given the opportunity, genuine talent reveals itself naturally.

Just as an awl eventually pierces through a bag,

great people shine wherever they are placed.

And that is the wisdom of

Nangjungjichu.
