KOREAN GROUND BEEF RECIPE

Sweet and Savory Korean Beef Topping

Korean Ground Beef is a quick, easy, and flavorful Korean-style beef topping made with ground beef, soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, plum extract, and a touch of sweetness.

It is savory, slightly sweet, rich, and perfect over warm rice. This versatile beef topping goes well with gimbap, noodles, bibimbap, rice bowls, sandwiches, lettuce wraps, and many other simple meals.

INGREDIENTS

MAIN INGREDIENT

174g ground beef, about 6 oz

SEASONING

6 tbsp soy sauce

3.5 tbsp oligosaccharide syrup, or corn syrup

1.5 tbsp minced garlic

1 tbsp cooking wine, or mirin

1 tbsp plum extract

2 tbsp sesame oil

1/2 tsp black pepper

ADD AT THE END

2 tbsp ground sesame seeds

1 tbsp perilla oil

HOW TO MAKE KOREAN GROUND BEEF

STEP 1: PREPARE THE BEEF

Prepare 174g of ground beef.

Pre-ground beef from the grocery store works perfectly for this recipe.

STEP 2: MIX THE SEASONING

In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oligosaccharide syrup, minced garlic, cooking wine, plum extract, sesame oil, and black pepper.

Add the ground beef and mix thoroughly.

Make sure the beef is evenly coated with the seasoning.

STEP 3: MARINATE

Cover the seasoned beef and marinate it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

This helps the beef absorb the sweet and savory flavor more deeply.

STEP 4: STIR-FRY

Heat a pan over high heat.

Add the marinated beef and stir-fry continuously.

Break up the beef as it cooks so the texture stays even and easy to use as a topping.

STEP 5: COOK OUT THE MOISTURE

As the beef cooks, moisture will begin to appear.

Keep stir-frying until about 90 to 95 percent of the moisture has evaporated.

This step helps create a rich and concentrated flavor.

STEP 6: ADD THE FINISHING TOUCH

Add the ground sesame seeds and perilla oil.

Mix evenly and cook for another minute.

The ground sesame seeds add a nutty flavor, and the perilla oil gives the beef a deep Korean-style aroma.

STEP 7: READY TO SERVE

The beef should be savory, slightly sweet, and richly flavored.

Serve it warm over rice, or use it as a topping for your favorite Korean-style meals.

You can also add a fried egg, chopped green onion, sesame seeds, kimchi, or vegetables to make a quick and satisfying rice bowl.
